MV saddened by loss of beloved 'Chef Joe'

Joe Prince had a boisterous personality and made some of the best cookies you’ve ever tasted. More than anything, Chef Joe was MV family. The longtime food service director known as “Chef Joe” passed away under hospice care on Wednesday, Nov. 23. He was 60.

Chef Joe worked at Maumee Valley Country Day School for 23 years and stepped away from food service last year when he experienced health issues. One of the most popular events at MV’s Annual Auction was a cookie baking party with Chef Joe. It was a wonderful scene as each child would marvel in each step of the process and then light up with joy after tasting the cookies they had made with him.

Below are a couple of special memories about Chef Joe:

“We have been at Maumee Valley a very long time together. You are forever cheerful, and you have the best sense of humor. Do you remember catering my graduation party when I received my master’s (24 years ago!)? You make the best Mexican food. You also made me cookies and chicken salad whenever I requested…even at the last minute. You are the best of the best. MV is not the same without you.” - Kitsy Choka

“I have many memories, but one that stands out is the fact that for years he was a passionate fan of the Browns throughout their losing years. After so many years of losing, he decided to swear them off right before the season they made their playoff run. For the entire season, he refused to watch while I gave him weekly updates and poked the bear. Of all the years to give up on his team, it had to be the year they were good. Ha!” - Bret Green

We are deeply saddened by Chef Joe’s passing, and he will be truly missed.

Please keep Tabatha, Shirley, and the rest of his family and friends in your hearts as this time is incredibly difficult for all of them.
